Escuela Montalban Student Reviews
To help you decide, we have gathered the real opinions that students of this school left on their Google profile.
We also had to the opportunity to dive into the richness of Andalusian culture and its history which added a whole other level to the learning experience.
The program I took allowed me to also have some private flamenco lessons which were super fun and a great form of exercise. The teacher paced the class well and was very encouraging and patient with me.
I also participated in one of the cultural activities offered in the evening, a tapas night, which was allowed me to meet with other students from all over the world and practice my Spanish in an informal setting.
I found the administration staff to be efficient as well as being very receptive and attentive to my needs, going out of their way to ensure I had a good experience at the college.
In summary I can heartily recommend the family at Escuela Montalban as a wonder-full place to learn Spanish and to immerse yourself in Andalusian culture!

I would not recommend this school to anyone because of that person. Without any education and with regrettable ways..
The professor I dealt with was a kind person and good at his job. All my admiration for him for his great professionalism and for having to put up with such a being called Paco.
The teachers, and everyone at the school are wonderful people, they really know how to make you learn.
There's extra activities outside of the school, trips and excursions. And you can pre-book activities such as tango and cookery lessons when you book your course.
I had tango lessons. Which were fabulous.
I stayed the week in a local family home, which was welcoming and fun.
And Granada is a beautiful chilled city.
My first time learning a language overseas and I would come back here again.

The staff of the Spanish school was extremely friendly and helpful, especially Paco. In the first day they helped me with my accommodation, informed me about different possibilities and important places in the city, and helped me get my debit card in a bank, which was incredibly important as well.
The accommodation was provided by the school. In the apartment I lived with 4 Spanish persons, who helped me boost my Spanish and experience Spanish culture and traditions. They were very friendly, kind and open-minded.
On the one hand, teachers were very professional and provided well-structured content. On another hand, they were very funny making a lot of jokes. Thus, they delivered a great combination of serious and funny content, which helped us feel comfortable and learn Spanish in a great atmosphere.
Another important part of learning Spanish language and culture took place outside of our classes. The school organized different social and cultural activities in the evenings and on weekends. In the first week we went to the Arabic bath, which helped me relieve stress from the first days of my adaptation to a new country. Moreover, I discovered an incredible art-form, which was born in Granada and called Flamenco. The flamenco show included very emotional and expressional music and dance. I fell in love with it and would love to experience it again. Another incredible activity was a tapa tour with the teacher Marisa, when almost all the students went out together to explore the tapas culture in different local bars. There is a tradition in Granada to give tapas for free when you order a drink.
I would definitely recommend this school to everybody, who wants to learn Spanish and discover a great culture of the beautiful Granada and Spain in general.
I also think I may have been unlucky with the week I enrolled, as I was told I had joined at a different part of the course compared to other students who had been there for longer, and I was not in the same 'rhythm' as them.
Overall, the teachers are very nice people, it feels like a family there and the classes are a good size and casual.
However, the lessons were not planned in a very dynamic way and not many modern language techniques were used, particularly for grammar lessons.
The lesson was solely the teacher writing grammar rules on the board while we copy, then a tonne of gap fill exercises. This went on for 90 minutes every morning! He didn't try and mix it up or make it interesting, it was the same process everyday single day.
Despite this, the most useful part was that he spoke in Spanish the whole time when telling us the rules, which was good for listening skills - but this is minimum standard practise anyway in language teaching.
The speaking lessons were more enjoyable, but the grammar we were taught in the morning was not used and it was a very 'free' practise - which is good for some, but I would personally prefer for there to be some link between what we learn in the morning and what we practise saying afterward.
Despite this, I had a good time on the last day, as the school organised a really good trip to the Alhambra's, there was a great tour guide that spoke in Spanish for the whole tour and who was excellent at illustrating the place with words. He pitched it at a good level for the group and did some good storytelling.
